Faculty of Law alum L. Kerry Vickar [LLB/1980] got to witness a return on his investment in-person on September 26 when he visited and officially opened the L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic. The gift he had given to the Faculty of Law had transformed a dingy basement storage room into a state-of-the-art experiential learning clinical space for law students to learn hands-on, the practice of business law.

Getting ready to help Northern communities

On August 22 and 23, law students from the L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic attended the 51st Northern Association of Community Councils (NACC) Annual General Assembly and Trade Show at Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park in Winnipeg. The NACC Annual General Assembly welcomed representatives from Northern Manitoba communities and others who support providing accessible services and resources to people living in Northern Manitoba.

UM gets more than $400,000 to double seats in clinical psychology program

Faculty of Law Rights Clinic Update: New team members and partnerships

This summer, the Rights Clinic at Robson Hall is dedicated to forging partnerships with organizations to advance rights on a broader scale. The Rights Clinic is thrilled to announce a number of additions to the team to support its summer operations and upcoming projects for the fall. Supervising Clinical Instructor Liz McCandless, joins forces with Rights Clinic founder Assistant Professor Brandon Trask, and incoming second-year summer students Lizzie Tough and Maria Garcia Manzano are enthusiastic about raising public awareness regarding rights-related issues.

Faculty of Law expands clinical options for experiential learning
August 5, 2022 —
Starting this fall, third-year law students at Robson Hall have their pick of an expanded number of experiential learning, or clinical courses. Out of approximately 100 students coming into their final year of the University of Manitoba’s Juris Doctor program, over half applied for an externship opportunity to get a chance to roll up their sleeves and do some work helping clients with legal matters or seeing first-hand how law works in practice.

Winnipeg Free Press: U of M opens pro bono legal rights clinic

Pro Bono Rights Clinic to launch at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law on July 26, 2022

The University of Manitoba Faculty of Law will launch its Rights Clinic at Robson Hall (“Rights Clinic”) on July 26, 2022. This novel initiative – supported by a grant from the Manitoba Law Foundation – will have a specific focus on assisting Manitobans with rights-advancing issues and cases in the areas of environmental rights, Charter rights, Indigenous rights, disability rights, and privacy rights, amongst others.
