UM Congratulates Successful 2022 Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) Program Applicants

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) Program provides opportunities for professors, instructors and librarians to meaningfully engage in projects that increase knowledge in pedagogy and learning. This year, ten awards of $6K and one major award of $25K were given to fund faculty projects. Learn more about the successful applicants, and how you can take part next year.

For newly graduated teachers and instructors beginning their careers, making the transition from learning in a classroom to teaching in front of a classroom can often be a daunting one. While their university studies have prepared them to be an expert in their field, what they may not be totally prepared for is the experience of teaching itself.

Upgrading the learning experience

Since 2014, the University of Manitoba has invested over $50 million in retrofitting older classrooms, upgrading and expanding classroom technology, and equipping teachers with modern tools for providing an inclusive, adaptable learning environment. This investment in transforming the learning experience through technological and environmental innovation plays a critical role in the fulfillment of the strategic pillars of Our Shared Future, the UM’s interim strategic plan.

“The Surveillant University”: Law Faculty’s Distinguished Visiting Lecturer to address controversial topic of remote proctoring

With final exams a little over a month away, the last topic being covered in the Faculty of Law’s Distinguished Visitors Lecture Series could not be more relevant. Speaking on “The Surveillant University: Remote Proctoring, AI and Human Rights,” Dr. Teresa Scassa, Canada Research Chair in Information Law and Policy at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law - Common Law Section, joins us at a virtual Robson Hall March 8 at 12:00 p.m. via Zoom. This talk is open to all members of the University of Manitoba community interested in human rights and exam surveillance.
