Desautels Centre for Private Enterprise and the Law in high gear for new year

January 18, 2022 —
Since August, 2021, many of the goals set for the Marcel A. Desautels Centre for Private Enterprise and the Law at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law have been attained. A new website complete with social media presence launched this fall. A regular blog and a Western Canada case reporter prepared by law students under faculty supervision are underway. A for-credit Scholarly Publications course for the peer-reviewed Desautels Review of Private Enterprise and Law began with the fall term as an official part of the Law Faculty’s course calendar. And that is just the beginning.

November 9, 2018 —
Since 1960, the Manitoba legal profession has had the benefit of the annual Isaac Pitblado Lectures, established in honour of the late distinguished Manitoba lawyer, Isaac Pitblado. This remarkable man actively practiced law for 74 years. This year's lectures proved to be a testament to the strong relationship between the Manitoba Bar Association (MBA), the Law Society, and Manitoba's Law School.

Honourary Doctors Jim and Sandra Piblado return to Robson Hall each year to present Dean's Honour students with Pitblado Scholarships.

Taking Care of Hearts and Minds

April 5, 2018 —
The study of Law is an intellectually challenging and life-consuming endeavour, but mental health is not something lawyers have traditionally been willing to discuss openly. An in-depth CBC report from 2016 examined research that found lawyers are at higher risk of mental health issues and addictions than the general populace. In the fall of 2017, Ontario law schools started initiatives to address law students’ stress and anxiety.
