While it’s easy to get caught up in busy schedules and numerous commitments, your physical and mental wellness matter above all else. Dimitar Tomovski is an MA student and 2022 recipient of a Centre for Professional and Applied Ethics graduate fellowship. The fellowship has allowed him to pursue his research on the rights of non-sentient beings with more financial freedom. The fellowships are open to UM faculty, instructors and graduate students from all fields and all faculties.

Explore Canada’s New Low Risk Alcohol Drinking Guidelines

For the first time since 2011, the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction has updated Canada’s low-risk alcohol drinking guidelines. As we know, consuming alcohol comes with health risks and can affect our functioning and overall well-being. What we may not know, is what amount of alcohol starts to increase our risk. If you choose to drink, it can be helpful to be aware of strategies you can use to lower your risk.

This year marks the 50th anniversary since Canadian law schools first started hosting the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition’s annual Canadian Division Qualifying Tournament in 1973. The University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law has the distinctive honour of hosting this Canadian leg of the world’s largest moot court competition over the weekend of February 23 to 25, 2023 at The Fairmont Winnipeg Hotel.

A Night of Stories with Janine Windolph

Janine Windolph is part of a growing movement of Indigenous female filmmakers shaking up the scene. On January 19, 2023 at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, to kick off her tenure as Writer-In-Residence at UM, The Decolonizing Lens and the Center for Creative Writing and Oral Culture held a wonderful welcome event with screenings of Windolph’s films.

The OUTLaws student group at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law is collaborating with the Manitoba Bar Association’s SOGIC (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Conference) section to host a conference regarding the unique legal issues that face 2SLGBTQ+ people living in Manitoba.

Faculty of Law thankful for Desautels legacy of Private Enterprise and the Law

The Faculty of Law joins the University of Manitoba community in remembering its extraordinary benefactor and alum, Marcel A. Desautels, CM, OOnt, OM. A former business leader and one of UM’s, and the Faculty of Law’s most distinguished benefactors and alumni, he passed away on January 31, 2023, at age 88.
