Map the System to give students the chance to be part of a global competition out of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Oxford

Map the System is a global competition out of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Oxford. Map the System requires participants to use a systems-thinking approach to demonstrate deep understanding of a pressing social or environmental challenge. In doing so, students ultimately uncover levers for change. Last year 16 Canadian post-secondary institutions participated in this global challenge. In 2024, Map the System is coming to the University of Manitoba!

First Experiential Learning Gathering at UM: Read what participants had to say about it!

On May 2, 2023, 32 faculty members, instructors and staff from across UM gathered to build relationships and exchange perspectives at the first UM Experiential Learning Gathering. Conversations ranged from the impact of AI and Covid-19 to the shifting role of postsecondary institutions and the radical possibilities of EL as a transformative approach to education.Â

Students’ Teacher Recognition Reception returns in-person to celebrate educators

The Students’ Teacher Recognition Reception is an opportunity to celebrate teaching excellence. Each faculty and school nominates an outstanding graduating student, who then selects two teachers who have made important contributions to their education – one from their Kindergarten to Grade 12 years and one from their time at UM. This year, the group of 22 graduating students spoke about 44 outstanding educators who inspired them.

UM prepares for attendees from across Canada for the Canadian Symposium on Academic Integrity

The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning will be welcoming more than one hundred guests from Manitoba’s educational institutions, including the University of Manitoba, Assiniboine Community College, University of Winnipeg, Université de Saint-Boniface, University College of the North, RRC Polytech, Robertson College, and the International College of Manitoba, as well as those from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. We are also pleased to host guests from the United Kingdom and Australia to the 3rd biannual Canadian Symposium on Academic Integrity (CSAI 2023).

College of Nursing PhD student meets community needs through entrepreneurship

John Jackson, a PhD student in the College of Nursing, noticed a gap during the pandemic in the availability of accessible, low barrier training opportunities for people who wanted to work in mental health and addiction settings. He discussed the issue with his community and found that employers also struggled to find candidates who had suitable education or training.
