Community of big hearts hosts stories of strength

On a night of celebrating Indigenous success, St John's College proudly hosts the Community of Big Hearts, Stories of Strength and Resilience on May 30 at 5:30 pm. The Stories of Strength Project stands as a collaborative endeavor, championed by CanU, the University of Can, an organization devoted to fostering hope, confidence, and leadership among the youth of Winnipeg.

The acclaimed Black physician and previous UM Distinguished Service Award recipient has faced both challenges and successes throughout her medical career.

Hispanic writer and teacher latest Writer-In-Residence
January 17, 2024 —
Miguel Antonio Chávez is the newest Writer-In-Residence at The Centre for Creative Writing and Oral Culture (CCWOC) at the University of Manitoba. Chávez will work with students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the public from January to April 2024. Opportunities include a welcome event reading, workshops and individual writer consultations. All activities are free.

Message from Warden and Vice-Chancellor, Allison Abra celebrating St John's College accomplishments from 2023. I hope you enjoy this video retrospective of our last year at St John's College. It's been a wonderful year the first normal feeling one since the pandemic where we have welcomed new students, fellows, and staff to our community. We have celebrated academic excellence through Convocation and graduation banquet, awarded many scholarships to our students, and seen our fellows produce incredible scholarship, and have had wonderful visits with alumni here in Winnipeg and across Canada. That's the best part of my job is connecting with all of you at different stages of your life in connection to the College and so I hope to see you in 2024. In the meantime, I wish you a happy holiday season, everyone at the College is, and a wonderful new year.

College recognizes four inspiring honorary degree members at Annual Convocation

On November 5, 2023, St John’s college celebrated four new Honorary Degree Recipients at our Convocation in the Chapel, recognizing these inspiring individuals for their contributions to both the College and the University, as well as the broader community. The 2022/23 Honorary Degree Recipients that we recognized included The Honourable Patricia Bovey, who received the Doctor of Canon Law (honoris causa), Brian Bowman, who also received the Doctor of Canon Law (honoris causa), Vincent Solomon, who received an Honorary Fellowship, and Brenda Cantelo, who received the Fellow’s Recognition Award.

Finance student finds college community and a place to build network

In coming to UM, Dharmil was excited to start this new adventure in business while doing his first semester online after travelling to Canada during the pandemic. After getting to Canada, Dharmil wasted no time getting involved at UM, where he found council work, extra-circular activities, and a co-op opportunity with the Asper School of Business.
