It’s a very exciting time to be in astrophysics at UM

Samar Safi-Harb is on the hunt for the biggest bangs since the “big bang.” She has just been named a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Extreme Astrophysics by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Safi-Harb is the first woman to be appointed a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair position in UM’s Faculty of Science.

Meet Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship Finalist, Joshua Okyere

Joshua Okyere, a PhD student at the University of Manitoba, has been selected as a finalist for the esteemed Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship and Engaged Leadership program. As the selection process continues in the coming weeks, he has a chance to be named one of this year’s Scholars.

Applications now open for ‘Ma thèse en 180 secondes’ competition

Describing your research concisely in three minutes or less is a great skill to possess. Ma thèse en 180 secondes provides the opportunity to master your elevator pitch in French. Launched in 2012, the French-language communication contest is modeled after the 3MT competition founded by The University of Queensland. This April, students in Manitoba will get the chance to compete for cash prizes, with the winner of the provincial competition advancing to the Canadian final and having a chance to move on to the international contest.

A settlement of the Mathias Colomb Cree First Nation, it has approximately a population of 3500 and is accessible only via the train from Pukatawagan to The Pas, or plane and on an ice road in the winter.
