August 5, 2022 — 
Starting this fall, third-year law students at Robson Hall have their pick of an expanded number of experiential learning, or clinical courses. Out of approximately 100 students coming into their final year of the University of Manitoba’s Juris Doctor program, over half applied for an externship opportunity to get a chance to roll up their sleeves and do some work helping clients with legal matters or seeing first-hand how law works in practice.

July 27, 2022 — 
A new pro bono clinic at the University of Manitoba aims to help communities historically under-served by the justice system take on issues ranging from disability rights to Indigenous rights to environmental rights and everything in between.

July 26, 2022 — 
The University of Manitoba Faculty of Law will launch its Rights Clinic at Robson Hall (“Rights Clinic”) on July 26, 2022. This novel initiative – supported by a grant from the Manitoba Law Foundation – will have a specific focus on assisting Manitobans with rights-advancing issues and cases in the areas of environmental rights, Charter rights, Indigenous rights, disability rights, and privacy rights, amongst others.

July 25, 2022 — 
Thinking outside the (gift) box, law professor Dr. Jennifer L. Schulz and her fiancé, family lawyer Elliott Goszer are giving, rather than receiving, a wedding gift to benefit law students at their alma mater, the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law. The Schulz/Goszer Prize for Alternative Dispute Resolution in Family Law will be given annually to a University of Manitoba law student who writes the best Alternative Dispute Resolution-themed paper in an upper year family law course, or the best family law-themed paper in an upper year dispute resolution course.

July 15, 2022 — 
Thanks to the efforts of a close-knit group of Faculty of Law alumni, Indigenous law students at Robson Hall will have access to another source of much-needed bursary funds, starting in the fall of 2023.

Dr. Kjell Anderson, assistant professor in the Faculty of Law and Director of the Master of Human Rights program, was a successful co-applicant on two significant Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC): one Partnership Grant, and one New Frontiers in Research grant.

June 24, 2022 — 
No less than three law students have been named recipients of the University of Manitoba’s 2022 Emerging Leader Awards. These remarkable students include Class of 2022’s Michael Badejo, President of the Manitoba Law Students’ Association (2021-2022), Shawn Singh, an active member of the MLSA and participant in the Presidents’ Student Leadership Program cohort (2021), and Class of 2023’s Adam Kowal, who served as co-president of the Manitoba Indigenous Law Students’ Association during his second year of law.

Each year, Indigenous Engagement and Communications, and the Office of the Vice-President (Indigenous) (OVPI) honours students, staff and faculty in the categories of community builder, trailblazer and outstanding achievement at the Indigenous Awards of Excellence

The Faculty of Law proudly congratulates the Master of Human Rights graduating class of 2022. Celebrating the conclusion of their program at a gala event at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights on June 10th, the twelve members of the third cohort of graduates from this unique interdisciplinary program said farewell to Robson Hall and set off to pursue careers in Human Rights advocacy. We asked a number of these incredible students to share their experiences taking this degree.
