The annual Solomon Greenberg Moot took place on Grey Cup Sunday, November 19, 2023 at the Winnipeg Law Courts. Participating students were third-year law students Melinda Moch, Noah Scatliff, Genevieve Smith, Dominique Gibson, Thomas Mooney, and Tyson Priebe.

The University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law and The Winkler Institute for Dispute Resolution at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University are pleased to announce they will serve as permanent co-hosts of the National Family Law Negotiation Competition (NFLNC) beginning the 2023-24 academic year.

Practicing professional instructor Tamra Alexander is not just here at Robson Hall to teach Wills and Succession and Commercial Law. Teaching and connecting with law students inspires her, but she is also tasked with a very important mission: to develop from the ground up, a program where newcomers to Manitoba and Canada who were trained as lawyers in other countries can re-train to resume their profession here in Canada.

The fourth National Access to Justice week took place October 23 – 27, 2023. This year’s theme was centred around the 10th Anniversary of Canada’s Justice Development Goals. In Manitoba, the Faculty of Law, the Law Society of Manitoba and the Manitoba Bar Association joined forces to present a full week of events. For its part, the Faculty of Law hosted a hybrid panel discussion on Tuesday, October 24, titled Access to Justice in French: A World to Discover.

Winnipeg Free Press: U of M establishes joint business, law degree

November 7, 2023 — 
The Faculty of Law and Stu Clark Graduate School, housed at the Asper School of Business, are launching the province’s first concurrent JD/MBA program at the University of Manitoba.

November 3, 2023 — 
The University of Manitoba Faculty of Law has launched a new Manitoba Legal Clinic for the Arts. The Clinic offers free legal advice and information specifically designed for artists, creatives, and arts and cultural organizations in Manitoba, including Northern communities, who do not have a lawyer or cannot afford legal assistance. Clients can receive information pertaining to contracts, intellectual property, sale of goods, information on business structures, technology, and more.

October 27, 2023 — 
Faculty of Law alum L. Kerry Vickar [LLB/1980] got to witness a return on his investment in-person on September 26 when he visited and officially opened the L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic. The gift he had given to the Faculty of Law had transformed a dingy basement storage room into a state-of-the-art experiential learning clinical space for law students to learn hands-on, the practice of business law.
