Asper alumna heads Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce board
The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce welcomed Asper alumni Priti Mehta-Shah [BComm(Hons)/83, CA, CBV, CF] as the new chair of its board of directors on October 20.
Mehta-Shah is co-founder and managing partner at 49-97 Capital Partners, a boutique financial services firm.
According to the Chamber, this marks the first time the board has achieved gender balance in the organization’s 143-year history.
In an interview with BOLD Radio’s John MacLise, Mehta-Shah described growing up with her Indian family in Uganda under the example of her entrepreneurial grandfather. The family moved to Canada when Ugandan dictator Idi Amin rose to power.
Mehta-Shah has sat on the Chamber of Commerce board since 2012. “The Chamber has energy,” she said, which is what inspired her to take on the role, along with a new strategic direction that focuses on bringing venture capital into the city to support emerging companies.
