This conference will explore a broad range of innovative topics in behavioral and household finance says conference organizer Dr. Chi Liao.

“This conference gives faculty, students, and finance professionals the opportunity to discuss a broad range of innovative topics in behavioral and household finance including the implications of psychology, politics, and the environment for household financial decision-making, asset markets, and CEO behavior,” says Dr. Chi Liao, Conference Chair and Assistant Professor at the Asper School of Business.  “The virtual format of the conference this year has the added benefit of being able to welcome participants from around the world.”

With a ten-year commitment of financial support from Quadrant Private Wealth, the Asper School of Business first hosted the Quadrant Behavioral Finance Conference in 2015.  The conference has grown to become signature event for Asper by leveraging the School’s research specialization in human behavior.

Asper alumni Michael Susser [BComm(Hons)/83, CPA, CMA, CIM, TEP, FICB], President and CEO of Quadrant Private Wealth, and Murray Palay [BComm(Hons)/78, L.LB, TEP], Executive Chairman and Portfolio Manager of Quadrant Private Wealth, chose to give back to their school by committing to this series of academic conferences.

Murray Palay, Executive Chair of Quadrant Private Wealth stated that “the Quadrant Private Wealth Behavioral Finance Conference is a great opportunity as a wealth management firm to support academic excellence in an area of finance that we live with every day. A strong, vibrant academic institution like the Asper School of Business is vital to our industry. Many members of the Quadrant Team are proud graduates. The growth of the Conference since the initial event has been remarkable and we look forward to it becoming a standard in the Behavioral Finance community.”

The Asper School of Business Pursuing our Asper-ations 2019-23 strategic plan outlines a priority to enhance the School’s research reputation. This priority involves capitalizing on the School’s current research strengths, which includes the interdisciplinary field of behavioral management.

As part of this priority, Dr. Gady Jacoby, Dean of the Asper School of Business and CPA Manitoba Chair in Business Leadership, spearheaded the development and construction of The David Dreman Behavioral Management Research Lab that is set to open in the Drake Building next year.

He noted the development of this lab and prioritization of behavioral management at the School is thanks to the transformational support from donors like Quadrant Private Wealth.

“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Quadrant Private Wealth for their generosity in supporting this conference, and in turn, our School’s research excellence,” says Dr. Jacoby.

“This conference has generated a transformational change in the behavioral finance research output at Asper. The event is an exceptional opportunity for our faculty members and students to be immersed in the field of behavioral finance through their exposure to the research insights provided by renowned academics presenting their work.”

The conference will host a collection of leading international academics from the University of Toronto, University of Notre Dame, Arizona State University, Harvard University, University of Colorado at Denver, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  An Asper School of Business PhD student will also present at the conclusion of the event.  The conference agenda and presentation details are found here.
