A new colloquium series is helping to improve support for students through the sharing of knowledge and research.

October 22, 2024 — 
The certificate, offered through The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (The Centre), combines workshops, mentorships and classroom observations. Participants learn pedagogical principles and foundational knowledge that can be applied in the classroom.

October 21, 2024 — 
New UM Learn module, Exploring Power Dynamics in Post-Secondary Institutions, helps instructors enhance their understanding of power dynamics in the post-secondary teaching context. The module is the third of six modules in Incorporating EDI into Your Course and Teaching, a course to help instructors apply equity, diversity and inclusion concepts in their teaching.

September 5, 2024 — 
If you’ve been wondering how to be more inclusive when creating files and ensure your materials meet accessibility standards, Panorama is your new best friend. Panorama is an accessibility tool that has been available on UM Learn since 2022. Now it’s also being relaunched as a password-protected portal, which means you can also review documents for accessibility outside UM Learn. You just log in to Panorama using your UM password—which means that UM staff and students can now also use it for any materials they produce.

At this year’s Teaching Café, hosted May 1 by The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, four UM panelists presented basic concepts of accessibility, shared thoughtful approaches for the classroom, and encouraged both small, cumulative actions and strategic planning to bring about positive change.

June 4, 2024 — 
On May 28, UM educators and scholars gathered for a luncheon to celebrate the significance of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), Hosted by the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic). The 2024 SoTL Luncheon shed light on the transformative power of SoTL work fostered collaborations in this vital field.

Attending the ISW sessions was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. There are so many complimentary elements inherent in the structure of the workshop that make for a fun and informative week spent with colleagues from around the University.
