National research funder taking steps toward equity, speaker says

Canada’s federal funding agency for health research is taking action to achieve equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in how it distributes funding, Dr. Charu Kaushic, scientific director of the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunitysaid in a recent UM presentation.

Rady researchers to develop ‘placenta on a chip’ and living lab platform

Two Rady Faculty of Health Sciences faculty members and researchers at the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM) were recently awarded New Investigator Research Grants from the Sick Kids Foundation, a national health education group, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health.

Panelists to health professionals: See every person as whole person, not just their disability

People with disabilities often avoid going to hospital or doctors’ offices because those areas are not equipped to address “non-conformist” bodies and minds, said Nancy Hansen, director of UM’s interdisciplinary master’s program in disability studies, at a recent panel discussion on ableism in health care.
