Sustainability engagement and opportunities on UM campuses

March 27, 2023 — 
Each year the university celebrates students, staff and faculty who are actively working towards bettering sustainability on campus. The following winners of the 2023 Sustainability Awards were selected by a committee and received their awards at UM Sustainability Night on March 8.

March 24, 2023 — 
To reduce the purchase of excess paper products at UM, the Facilities department requests that all surplus inter-office envelopes be returned in order to allow redistribution to departments as needed across campus. These redistribution methods will reduce overall orders of new envelopes across our campuses.

February 24, 2023 — 
Join us for Sustainability Night 2023 on March 8 to connect with other sustainability-minded members of the UM campus community.

January 30, 2023 — 
Do you have a friend, co-worker or professor who shows leadership, creativity and dedication to a sustainability and the UN Sustainable Development Goals on campus? If so, nominate them for a 2023 UM Sustainability Award.  

January 27, 2023 — 
Join friends and fellow Manitobans for this year’s Jack Frost Challenge — a province-wide event organized by the Green Action Centre that takes place from Feb. 5 to 11 and encourages participants to complete 130 collective kms of winter activities.

January 16, 2023 — 
UM needs your help to improve your campus commute and help inform future transportation planning. Fill out the Campus Commute Survey between January 16-31, 2023.

November 24, 2022 — 
The holiday season is quickly approaching; the Office of Sustainability shares twelve suggestions to have a climate-friendly, zero waste holiday.

November 7, 2022 — 
The University of Manitoba has earned a STARS gold rating for a second time in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). STARS, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) is a transparent, self-reporting framework for post-secondary institutions to measure their sustainability performance. UM’s 2022 STARS report is publicly available on the STARS website.

Waste Reduction Week is back! UM is participating in Waste Reduction Week by hosting a variety of events on campus and sharing helpful tips on Instagram to help you reduce waste at home.
