Science Co-op grows again – welcome Psychology Co-op!

For the past two-plus years, Science Co-op has expanded the breadth of Science undergraduate degree programs which offer co-op, the geographical scope of co-op employers, the number of co-op placements and the number of participating students. Science Co-op is growing again with the addition of Psychology Co-op!

UM Science Co-op student lands job at Apple

May 26, 2020 — 
Josephson landed a much sought after internship at Apple as part of their Software Accessibility Team. Referring to his Silicon Valley stint as a “life-changing experience”, Josephson says that he is grateful to have played a part in Apple’s focus on accessibility, since it has impacted almost all aspects of his life (Josephson is visually impaired).

Biologist Margaret Docker co-lead on four-year eDNA Genome Canada project

Canada is home to almost 200 species of freshwater fish spread out over more than two million lakes covering about 7.6 per cent of Canada’s nearly 10 million square kilometres. Margaret Docker and her colleagues want to catalogue them all (the fish, that is).

Artificial intelligence-driven solution to mitigate economic impact of partial casino closures

May 22, 2020 — 
In the wake of the current coronavirus pandemic, many casinos will temporarily close and will implement social distancing measures within their properties when they are operational. nQube, in collaboration with partners at University of Manitoba Data Science NEXUS, recognizes that many casinos are looking for strategies to protect their customers, while also minimizing the impact to business. In order to mitigate the spread of the virus, casinos may consider temporarily shutting off some slot machines or rearranging their casino floors to increase the physical distance between players.
