Remote learning and work environments have increased the requirements for video conferencing across the university. The Information Services Technology and The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning are implementing university-wide educational access to Zoom for Education, to complement our existing collaboration tools, Webex and Microsoft Teams.

MathWorks Software now available for all students, faculty and staff

The University of Manitoba has purchased a campus-wide license for MathWorks Software. This license provides unlimited use of MATLAB and Simulink product families, as well as their companion toolboxes, to all students, faculty, staff, and researchers both on and off campus, on any device.

Microsoft 365 project update

The Office 365 Project Team would like to thank all staff and faculty for your support during our rollout of Microsoft 365 licenses and the email accounts migrations to the new Microsoft environment. Our project was planned to begin last summer, but the pandemic intervened. As a result, the project rolled out new licenses to all staff and faculty last March so everyone would have access to Microsoft's online tools for collaboration.

Do you use digital signatures? Tell us why or why not

Information Services and Technology is currently reviewing examples of how digital signatures are used as part of the university’s waste reduction initiative. A “digital signature” uses encryption to validate the authenticity of a software, message, or digital file. Using mathematically generated code, it is secure enough to be considered legal and binding in Canada.

Students, don’t forget to move your OneDrive files to your new OneDrive folder by Friday

Last August, all students were moved to the same UM Microsoft environment as UM faculty, staff and researchers to enable collaboration when using tools like Teams and OneDrive. The move included student email, but it did not include your OneDrive folders.

Microsoft OneDrive: New file request feature

With the new file request feature in OneDrive, you can choose a folder where others can upload files using a link that you send them. People you request files from can only upload files. They can't see the content of the folder, edit, delete, or download files. They can't even see who else has uploaded files.
