Voting is now open for your next UM Board of Governors alumni representative

April 10, 2024 —

The time is here to choose your next Board of Governors representative. Voting is now open and all alumni are eligible and encouraged to participate in the process.

This election is an excellent opportunity for you to make your unique voice heard. Your vote will help define UM’s future and decide which of your fellow graduates will represent you and your fellow alumni.

Your elected alumni representative will be an important voice in UM governance and will have the opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of students and the UM community.

This year, our nominees are four diverse and accomplished graduates who are passionate about making a difference on campus and beyond.

Incumbent Duane Brothers [BA/82, BEd/84, PhD/17] – “A passionate career educator [and current Board of Governors member], Duane has presented and facilitated with groups throughout Manitoba, Canada, and the USA in the areas of educational leadership, governance, and anti-racism. During his current term on the Board of Governors, [he] has served on several committees, including the Board Executive Committee, the Human Resources and Compensation Committee, the Governance Working Group, the Presidential Review Committee and represented the board on the UM Anti-Racism Task Force.”

John Clarkson [BComm(Hons)/76] – “John has a strong background in strategic and operational planning with a good understanding of the financial challenges facing all academic institutions across the county. He believes in the importance of the role of the university and its ability to respond to changing community and economic circumstances.”

Reanna Merasty [BEnvD/19, MArch/21] – “Reanna continuously advocates for Indigenous inclusion and representation in design education. [She] grounds herself in heart work, ceremony, community, and wellness and works towards the resiliency and resurgence of Indigenous peoples in all that she does. It is important for the board to have Indigenous representation, and she would be honored to serve the UM alumni community in this way.”

Sean Winslow [BA/01, BComms(Hons)/05] – “As someone with a passion for education and lifelong learning, Sean is anxious to get back to being involved in the post-secondary education sector. His time at UM and the connections he made there continue to shape his life in ways he could not have imagined. Sean would appreciate the opportunity to serve on its Board of Governors to give back and contribute his small part in helping the University of Manitoba continue to shape the lives of others.”
