Vote for your fellow alumni in the University of Manitoba Board of Governors election

The Board of Governors serves as the corporate governing body of the University and is responsible for overseeing the administrative and business affairs of the U of M. Duties include approving the annual budget and appointing and monitoring the performance of the President and Vice-Chancellor.

U of M alumni can elect fellow graduates to serve on three of the 23 University of Manitoba Board of Governors positions. Alumni elected to serve on the Board of Governors may do so for a maximum of three consecutive three year terms. One of these term positions is ending. As such, votes are now being accepted to fill the vacant role.

The candidates are:

Shona Connelly is a graduate the University of Manitoba with Bachelor and Master of Art degrees in political studies. She has over 12 years of experience in the non-profit sector, including eight years serving as the director, Major Gifts for the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation. Her experience has earned her a solid reputation among professionals in the fundraising community.

Shona has also held positions at St-John’s Ravenscourt School Parents Association; St. Mary’s Academy Foundation Board; Nellie McClung Foundation Board; and is currently a vice-president of the University of Manitoba Alumni Association, having chaired the Alumni Achievement committee for the last two years. Shona was also chosen by the Alumni Association to be the senate representative for alumni. Shona served as the executive assistant to the cabinet minister responsible for the departments of Education, Justice, and Culture & Heritage & Recreation in the government of Manitoba.

Lindy Norris, is a B.A. and B.Comm (Hons) alumni and current University of Manitoba MBA student. She is an accomplished marketing professional and community advocate who’s work was named to Marketing Magazine’s 30 Under 30 list in 2013, was a finalist for the Future Leaders of Manitoba awards, and received a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

In 2011 Lindy founded Athena Leadership – a leadership development, mentorship, and networking forum for young women professionals. Lindy grasps the complex relation between civic and economic development, and has made significant contributions to many nonprofit organizations in Manitoba, including the United Way Winnipeg, St. Amant Foundation, Winnipeg Art Gallery, Futurpreneur, Young Associates, and more. She is director of business development and marketing with Pitblado Law, and prior to joining the firm operated her own strategic growth consulting practice. She has also served as vice president of strategy and business development with Q-Power Communications, director of advertising with The Dufresne Group, and consumer market manager with MTS Inc.

Ballots can be downloaded here (right-click, save as) and will be accepted in the following ways:

  • By email to: alumni [at] umanitoba [dot] ca. Email submissions must be a scanned copy of the completed ballot
  • By mail to: Board of Governors Election, Alumni Relations, University of Manitoba, Unit 200-137 Innovation Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 6B6, Canada
  • By fax to: 204-474-7531
  • In person at the Alumni Relations office (Unit 200-137 Innovation Drive). Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Voters must clearly indicate their alumni number and whom they are supporting. Only one vote is allowed per email. If two or more votes are included within the same email, they will not be accepted. As well, ballots without proper alumni numbers will not be accepted.
