The Unbounded Imagination, alum brings black orchestral composers to the forefront

For Black History Month, Alum Larry Strachan [Music/94] is bringing the works of black orchestral composers to the forefront in a powerful performance of The Unbounded Imagination on Feb. 21.

Strachan leads the orchestral group Chamber Orchestra Musaic, a non-profit organization promoting the cultural mosaic of Winnipeg through orchestral music. The organization has been operating for 9 years and is lead by artistic director, Larry Strachan. Strachan holds a master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting from Shenandoah University in Virginia and is a graduate from the University of Manitoba’s School of Music.

The next concert, The Unbounded Imagination, will be held on Sunday, February 21 at 7 p.m.. It will take place at the Gas Station Arts Centre, 445 River Ave. The concert will include works by Howard Swanson, Julia Perry, Daniel Bernard Roumain, Edmond Dédé, and Nkreiru Okoye and will feature soloist, Dean Pollard (trumpet).

This concert is supported with funding by the Manitoba Arts Council.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students/youth and are available at the Gas Station Arts Centre box office, Fools and Horses Coffee (379 Broadway), or at the door, or by calling 204-504-2185.
