This Earth Day, we’re celebrating the first ever Green Investment Fund recipients, which will help our University of Manitoba community reach our 2050 Climate Action Plan goals . The Green Investment Fund was created to spur community involvement in helping us reach these goals and to encourage meaningful collaboration between faculty, staff and students in the name of sustainability.

On World Water Day 2024, discover the vital research of Miguel Uyaguari, an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Science at the University of Manitoba.

March 18, 2024 — 
The Office of Sustainability, in collaboration with Operations and Maintenance, is leading a waste composition study for the week of March 18. A team will be collecting a day’s worth of waste from a variety of high-traffic areas around the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses and sorting through everything they find in our garbage, recycling and organics bins.

February 28, 2024 — 
The University of Manitoba’s annual Sustainability Night is coming up on Mar. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Marshall McLuhan Hall. This year’s theme is the UM Climate Action Plan (CAP), which will be the main focus of presentations from UM faculty, students and staff.

Asper MBA alum Pablo Reich [MBA/02] is the executive vice president of Arconas, a Canadian manufacturer and distributor of high-performance furniture for airports and passenger terminals in North America. Reich has built on the company’s legacy of sustainability, all while growing a successful business in a unique market.

Join the Office of Sustainability for a fast-paced, interactive networking event on Oct. 24, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the EITC Atrium.

October 13, 2023 — 
Asper School of Business researcher, instructor and PhD candidate Mojtaba M. Shourkaei explores how businesses can advance sustainability. He recently completed research on Patagonia, an outdoor apparel brand, and published his findings this year in Business Strategy and the Environment, a leading academic journal in the field of business sustainability.

Waste Reduction Week 2023 is Oct. 16 to 20, and the Office of Sustainability has some interactive events planned to help us all explore the themes of a circular economy.

2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the Office of Sustainability at the University of Manitoba. Through innovative practices, programs and resources, including the UM Climate Action Plan, it has made significant sustainable impacts. With much, much more on the horizon, let’s look back at 10 milestones from the first of many chapters in sustainability and climate action at UM.

July 25, 2023 — 
The University of Manitoba has signed research and exchange agreements with University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) in Morocco to support research excellence in key priority areas and create new opportunities for faculty and staff at both institutions.
