SSHRC invests in researchers studying issues related to individuals and society

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) has awarded $91 million in funding to more than 1,253 researchers from 60 different Canadian institutions, following the 2019-20 Insight Grants competition. Among these are 10 UM researchers who collectively received $1,796,707 in funding.

Research highlights use of restraints

June 15, 2020 — 
As Maggie Macintosh Cash at the Winnipeg Free Press reports: Some parents say their children were physically restrained to a chair at school, with arm splints and posey cuffs. Others reported their child had been confined to a cinder block-lined closet. In one case, a student came home often with torn clothing, after he had been “yanked around like a rag doll and forced into the quiet room.”
