Heart Garden takes over UM Quad for third annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

310. That’s the number of orange hearts that make up the commemorative heart garden planted in the quad at the University of Manitoba’s Fort Garry campus. Each one represents the memory of a child lost to the residential school system, while also honouring Survivors and offering a commitment to reconciliation.

A member of the Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation, and an athlete who believes in the power of movement as medicine, UM law student Tréchelle Bunn founded a healing walk in July 2021 which has since grown into the Reconciliation Run, Canada's first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Half Marathon.

UM receives $12.5 million from feds to advance science research and innovation

The University of Manitoba (UM) is poised to push science research and innovation forward with the announcement of key investments by the Canadian government across more than 150 projects totaling $12.5 million. Notable funding includes $1.4 million to support Arctic science and climate change research, further positioning UM as a leader in this field, as well as an inaugural Excellence in Equity award to Dr. Tina Chen, Executive Lead (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) at UM.
