A message from alumnus Dennis Hrycaiko
Can you think of something you’re proud of? I can. Joining the Bisons and winning the National Championship back to back in ’69 and ’70. We made history! And it made me realize the importance of competing at a high level.
Studying at the University of Manitoba changed the course of my life forever. Not only because I learned a lot about my chosen fields — Physical Education and Teaching — but because of the kind of person it shaped me to be.
I met my wife, Ruth, at the University. She became an educator, and so did I — teaching at UM for 34 years. And when it was time for their undergrad studies, both of our children chose UM. We owe a debt of gratitude to the school for so many good memories. And that’s why I’m writing you today.
As a fellow alum, you know the value of getting a first-rate education right here in Manitoba. We’re privileged to have it. But you also know that many students rely on crucial supports to achieve their dreams.
You’ve probably already heard that we’re in the last days of the historic Front and Centre campaign. One of our goals is to have 1 in 5 alumni participate. More than 25,000 alumni just like you have already contributed. I’m proud to say I’m one of them. I’ve already made my gift and have given back every year for the last 32 years. We only need 71 more alumni donors to reach our goal and I’m asking you to be one of them.
A monthly gift of $10 will help provide scholarships and bursaries that enable our students, our researchers, and our university to compete at the highest level. Your generosity could be the difference between someone finishing their schooling, or having to quit on their dreams. And that’s something you can be proud of too.
With gratitude,
Dennis Hrycaiko

Proud donor
P.S. If you can’t make a monthly gift, please consider making a one-time gift and help deserving students in our province follow in your footsteps.
P.P.S. I hope to see you at the Front and Centre campaign celebration on April 2. More details coming soon!
