Alum recognized by Canadian Red Cross for humanitarian service
On September 10, 2015, the late John Alexander MacAulay [LLB/18, LLD/54] was honoured with a Red Cross Legacy Award for his humanitarian work at the provincial, national, and international level.
A longtime volunteer and leader with the Canadian Red Cross, MacAulay was president of both the Manitoba Red Cross and the Canadian Red Cross. His volunteer work culminated during his term as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the International League of Red Cross Societies in 1963, when the Red Cross received the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Red Cross Legacy Award was presented to the MacAulay family at the annual Power of Humanity Awards Luncheon, held at the Delta Hotel in Winnipeg.
Three generations of MacAulay’s have graduated from the University of Manitoba. John Alexander’s grandson John Christopher MacAulay [BA/92, MBA/97], Senior Vice President at BMO Financial Group, accepted the award on his family’s behalf.
