Ready to vote our favourite athlete, Jennifer Jones, to top spot?

November 25, 2014 —

Who better to be crowned Canada’s Athlete of the Year than our very own Jennifer Jones?

The Air Canada Athlete of the Year program recognizes one inspiring Canadian athlete each year — and this year, the U of M alumna and poster-woman for the U of M Trailblazer campaign is one of the contenders.

Faculty of Law alumna and Olympic curling champion Jennifer Jones inspired at the exciting 2014 Olympic Games — now you can help propel her to new heights by voting for Jones in the annual contest. Each vote also helps the athletes win an Air Canada travel prize, and you can even send a personal message to Jennifer while you vote. Voters are also eligible to win two Economy Class round-trip tickets anywhere Air Canada flies in North America.

Vote at the Air Canada Athlete of the Year website — it’s our chance to help Jennifer make it to top spot as Canada’s favourite, most inspiring Canadian athlete. The deadline for voting is Dec. 6.

Let’s hear it for Jennifer Jones!

Jennifer Jones is considered to be one of the most successful female curlers of the last decade. She started curling at the age of 11, and has since gone on to mark many firsts in her career. At the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, she was the first female skip to go through the tournament undefeated, and under her leadership Team Canada brought home the first woman’s curling gold in sixteen years. Jones has been a dominant force on the Grand Slam of Curling circuit since its inception in 2006 and is a four-time champion of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Career highlights
Jones made headlines across the country when she went undefeated en route to a gold medal win at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Jennifer had come to prominence back at the 2005 Scott Tournament of Hearts, when she won her first Canadian title with “The Shot”, a difficult in-off needed to save her team from elimination. Jones’ remarkable throw under high pressure rocked the curling world, and captivated the nation.
