What is listeriosis, and how can I protect myself?

January 12, 2015 —

A recent outbreak of listeria monocytogenes (a bacteria that can develop into a serious disease) has once again brought the safety of the North American food supply into question. The outbreak has been connected to a particular brand of pre-packaged caramel apples made in the United States. Dozens of people in the U.S.  and two Canadians (including one in Manitoba) have been diagnosed with listeriosis in this recent outbreak.
