Alumna Jennifer Jones wins national championship!
For the fifth time in her curling career, U of M alumna Jennifer Jones (BA/96, LLB/99) is a Canadian champion!
Team Manitoba (skip Jennifer Jones, third Kaitlyn Lawes, second Jill Officer and lead Dawn McEwen) celebrated a 6-5 win over Alberta to earn the championship in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts on February 22 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
The Canadian Curling Association provides a full recap of Team Manitoba’s victory.
“Oh, it’s awesome,” marvelled Jones. “To come off our Olympic year, and to come back and win the Scotties and be able to put the Maple Leaf on your back is truly an honour. I can’t believe we get to do this. It’s truly unbelievable.”
This is the first national championship for third Katlyn Lawes, who also has a U of M connection. Lawes represented the University as part of the Recreation Services Rec Club program and won the Canadian University Curling championship.
Congratulations Team Manitoba!
