International award-winning cosmic image

Dr. Jayanne English, an expert in astronomy image-making in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, at the University of Manitoba won 2nd place in the prestigious National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) cosmic image contest for her latest cosmic image, a composite VLA and Hubble Space Telescope image revealing the extended magnetic field of the galaxy NGC 5775. Named: Magnetic Field of Galaxy NGC 5775.

Over forty undergraduate students enrolled in the Faculty of Science are participating in the first (virtual) Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Science Undergraduate Student Competition, August 11th, & 12th, 2020. A new initiative, part of the Faculty of Science, Student Undergraduate Summer Research Experience Program. Three Minute Thesis challenges students to communicate their ideas and research discoveries concisely to a non-specialist audience, in three minutes or less. There will be two competitions that will air live on the Faculty of Science YouTube channel.

In 1914, the same year the world went to war, the Manitoba Law School was established by forward-thinking, concerned advocates in H.A. Robson and E.K. Williams who made the education of future lawyers their top priority. Since then, the Faculty of Law has continued to build on this rich tradition. In the face of adverse events like today's pandemic, this faculty community has always found a way to carry on.
