Supervisors can now access new Manager’s Toolkit

Includes guidelines and resources for all levels of managers

November 21, 2017 —

Supervisors across the university can access the Manager’s Toolkit, which includes guidelines, templates and checklists for recruiting, hiring and onboarding staff.

“We want to give university managers the tools to effectively recruit and welcome staff to the U of M,” says Darlene Smith, director, client services, human resources. “Supervisors play a pivotal role in supporting and engaging staff, and we strive to continuously support all levels of managers.”

The Manager’s Toolkit focuses on the beginning stages of employment: reviewing application materials; preparing for and conducting interviews; doing reference checks, selecting the candidate; writing the justification of selection report; and successfully onboarding the new hire.

In the future, other stages of the employment cycle will be added to the Manager’s Toolkit, such as managing performance, developing career plans and coaching/mentoring.

The online toolkit can be downloaded on the human resources website.

Human resources consultants are available for any questions or assistance.

“Ultimately, we want to support supervisors and see staff learn, grow, be successful and make a difference at the University of Manitoba,” says Smith.

“Together, we are building an outstanding learning and working environment.”

The Manager’s Toolkit can be found on the human resources website.
