November 25, 2022 — 
In the finale of Die Hard, Bruce Willis’ character, John McLane, is in utter shambles. His face is bruised, his body is broken, and he is hardly able to walk. Often, whether due to shame or a lack of knowledge, men will find themselves in similar disarray before seeking out mental health support. As our panelists for the Men’s Mental Health in the Legal Profession categorically stated, men should not wait until their well-being is similarly tattered before reaching out for help.

November 17, 2022 — 
Master of Laws and Master of Human Rights students will not be able to reach Lexa Moorehouse, Research and Graduate Program Assistant at the Faculty of Law, until after next Tuesday. She’s away from her desk at the moment, cheering on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at the 109th Grey Cup in Regina, Saskatchewan. Not from the stands, but from the Astro turf on the field below, performing exciting and dangerous acrobatic and dance routines with her fellow professional athletes on the Blue Bombers Cheer and Dance Team.

November 16, 2022 — 
November may be officially designated as national career month, but staff and students at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law work hard year-round to ensure graduating students have career options lined up as they near their respective finish lines.

October 28, 2022 — 
One third-year law student is having a most extraordinary start to her legal career. One month in to her last year of law school at Robson Hall, Edvanny Silva Burns (3L) found herself having to tune up her cello to perform in the backing orchestra for the Michael Bublé concert that rolled through Winnipeg on October 7th.

October 21, 2022 — 
Retired Faculty of Law Professor DeLloyd J. Guth, who now lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan said he was “envious” of students and his former colleagues on a cold, snowy October Thursday in Winnipeg, because they got to hear Professor Constant Backhouse in-person at the 14th Annual DeLloyd J. Guth Visiting Lecture in Legal History. Guth delivered his welcoming remarks by proxy through Associate Professor Amar Khoday.

October 14, 2022 — 
Each fall, the Faculty of Law community remembers remarkable alumni through the awards that are given out in their honour. This year, the Faculty remembered the hard work and perseverance of alum Ken Tacium by presenting the Ken Tacium Memorial Scholarship to law students Peter Frejek and Laraib Khaliqdina. The David Sowemimo Law Entrance Scholarship was presented to Meseret Alem Kahsay.

October 6, 2022 — 
The Faculty of Law hosted its 2022 Homecoming event on September 21 in collaboration with Legal Aid Manitoba to celebrate the 50-year partnership that has existed between the two institutions. Since 1972, Legal Aid lawyers have supervised law students working at the University of Manitoba Community Law Centre (known as the Legal Aid clinic) to provide experiential learning opportunities to law students and ensure access to justice to persons who cannot afford a lawyer.

September 23, 2022 — 
A rare and marvellous event it is, when a Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada can spend some quality time speaking with law students, answering their questions and sharing personal experiences. Robson Hall students and faculty had the opportunity on Thursday, September 22, to ask anything they wanted of The Honourable Russell Brown, who was in Winnipeg for a national judicial event this week.

September 20, 2022 — 
The University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law is pleased to announce the launch of an Access to Justice blog that will be a valuable legal resource to Canadians. The site will highlight developments related to access to justice from across Canada, with an emphasis on those relevant to Manitoba.
