WestCAST showcases Indigenous culture

Dressed head-to-toe in clothing adorned with ornate accents, Charlene Baker, smiled as she chatted with classroom instructors and peers, excited to be participating in a workshop on her life’s passion. “I always wear my beadwork on my clothing. It’s something that represents me as First Nation,” Baker says, adding she learned beading from her mother 45 years ago, and is now passing it on to her two daughters, granddaughters and nieces. She also teaches beading at her school as president of a bead club, and continues to learn more crafts from elders.

Robson Hall Faculty of Law students bring home MacIntyre Cup – again

The time-honoured tradition of moot court competitions happens throughout much of the university school year beginning in early winter with internal competitions, but the season comes to a head nationally in February with teams from schools across Canada facing off to argue various subjects. Manitoba has started the season off with strong representation in the first of many upcoming moots.

Kids Shine in the First Annual CanU Moot

Since 2016, over 300 kids from schools across Winnipeg have attended Robson Hall with hopes of learning what law school is like. While at Robson Hall these kids have learned about the importance of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, how to identify when their rights and freedoms are violated, and how to fight for those rights when they are unjustifiably taken away.

Fighting Cyber Crime with Research

Dr. Annappa is an Associate Professor at the National Law School of India University at Bangalore and Chief Coordinator of the Advanced Centre on Research, Development and Training in Cyber Law and Forensics. She was a Visiting Scholar with the CHRR for the month of February, 2018, while conducting research in Canada for her work regarding cyber laws for the online protection of children.

"Are lawyers rich?" asked a student before Professor David Ireland began his presentation to a jam-packed Moot Courtroom at Robson Hall this Thursday, February 22. Laughing along with the grade 11 and 12 high school students filling the largest auditorium in the building, Ireland gave students a taste of what to expect if they want to pursue careers in law.
