Alumnus named Associate Dean, College of Medicine
Congratulations to Asper alumni Aaron Chiu [MBA/12, MD, FRCPC, FAAP], who was appointed Associate Dean, Quality Improvement & Accreditation, University of Manitoba College of Medicine on April 1, 2016.
In his new role, Chiu provides administrative leadership and oversight for continuous quality improvement within the College, and serves as the lead for College accreditations.
Chiu is an associate professor of pediatrics specializing in neonatology — or acute medical care to newborn infants — at the University of Manitoba.
He’s occupied several local and national leadership roles throughout his career, including the director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Program, the Pediatrics Residency Program, and the U of M Postgraduate Medical Education Core Curriculum. He’s also the current medical director of the Manitoba RSV Prophylaxis program.
And in May 2016, he’ll take on one more leadership role as president-elect of Doctors Manitoba for 2017-18.
“I see these wonderful new opportunities as a natural progression,” he says. “They’ve grown out of my strong focus on improving my effectiveness as a leader and administrator in medicine. My MBA from the Asper School has helped tremendously in that regard, by giving me a whole-system perspective on health care that includes everything from management best practices, finance, human resources and innovation.”
He received the Asper MBA Gold Medal for graduating with the highest GPA.
