June 16, 2020 —  The Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba fully, and without reservation, supports the Canadian Association of Social Work Education (CASWE-ACFTS) Student Committee and the Race, Ethnicity, and Cultural Issues (RECI) caucus' Call to Action to "Fight Against Anti-Black Racism in Social Work."

June 16, 2020 —  To commemorate Pride this year, the Pride flag will fly over the UM Fort Garry campus from June until Pride Winnipeg’s virtual celebration in September.

June 15, 2020 —  As Maggie Macintosh Cash at the Winnipeg Free Press reports: Some parents say their children were physically restrained to a chair at school, with arm splints and posey cuffs. Others reported their child had been confined to a cinder block-lined closet. In one case, a student came home often with torn clothing, after he had been “yanked around like a rag doll and forced into the quiet room.”

June 15, 2020 —  Historian Dr. Adele Perry has been appointed director of the Centre for Human Rights Research (CHRR) effective July 1, 2020. She takes over from founding director and law professor Karen Busby.

June 15, 2020 —  When the Canadian Museum for Human Rights broke ground in 2009, Prof. Karen Busby was tasked with helping make the University of Manitoba a top choice for students and scholars of human rights. She agreed to spend six months consulting across campuses to come up with a plan. Eleven years later, Busby is stepping down as founding director of the university’s Centre for Human Rights Research, formally established in 2012.
