Asper alumnus donates from the heart
Asper alumnus Edward Acuna presented a cheque for $1,000 to the Asper School of Business on behalf of RBC Royal Bank on Tuesday, January 12.
Acuna is a Relationship Manager for RBC Commercial Financial Services and a part-time sessional instructor for the Asper School’s Department of Marketing. He received the $1,000 as part of the RBC Regional President Community Leadership award in 2015, in recognition for his compassion, energy, and outstanding volunteerism in the community.
RBC gave Acuna the opportunity to present the $1,000 to an organization of his choice — and he chose the Asper School.
“We all play an important role in helping to improve the communities in which we live,” says Acuna. “I knew immediately that I would allocate the $1,000 donation to the Asper School of Business because of the foundation I gained during my Bachelor Commerce (Honours) program and the lessons I learned in activities outside the classroom. The overall student experience during my undergraduate degree inspired my commitment to volunteering and making a positive impact in Manitoba.”
Joining him in making the presentation was Aaron Martyniw, RBC’s Vice President, Commercial Financial Services, Winnipeg. Martyniw, a fellow Asper alumni and ABEP graduate, says the award recognizes Acuna’s commitment to RBC values:
“Edward has made a consistent and active contribution to our community while excelling in his role at RBC. Some of his achievements include serving as United Way Leadership Chair for the Division as RBC’s representative, co-leading a fundraising initiative that raised over $8,000 for the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation, and volunteering 11 times with charitable organizations on RBC Days of Service — more than any other Commercial Banking representative. He also volunteers his time at Gold Medal Plates Gala, Royal Winnipeg Ballet Gala, Winnipeg Art Gallery, RBC Blue Water Day, and more.”
