U of M launches online awards database

August 5, 2014 —

In the 2013/14 academic year, over 10,000 students received award funding from the University of Manitoba. In an effort to assist students in finding which awards they are eligible for, the university has launched its new online awards database.

“The new online searchable awards database will provide our students with a central source of information on award funding at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate Senate-approved awards at the university,” said Jane Lastra, Director, Financial Aids & Awards.

“They will be able to get a more accurate breakdown of what types of awards are available, and the value of those awards without calling multiple offices. And because we are aware and appreciate just how busy our students are with their academics, part-time employment, and extra-curricular activities, we have made the database accessible from all mobile devices.”

Users can modify their search by level, major, graduate program, application required, or keyword. There is also the option to search by groups: Aboriginal, international, and students with disabilities. Once a user finds the award they’re looking for, they can get further information including the full description of the award, cash value, eligibility criteria and application information.

In 2013/2014, the U of M awarded over $15 million in scholarships, bursaries, and prizes, recognizing academic excellence and/or financial need by current students (undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate) and recent high school graduates.

Current and prospective students, faculty, staff, award donors and high schools can access the database now online, or through the UManitoba mobile app – available on Apple and Android devices.
