Recent inductees into the Order of Manitoba include three alumni

The University of Manitoba would like to congratulate the most recent individuals to be inducted as Members of the Order of Manitoba. This year’s recipients includes three notable U of M alumni.

  • Chad Allan [B.Sc./1967], a rock music icon, for his contributions to the Canadian music industry including the pivotal role he played in the creation of two legendary Winnipeg rock bands: The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive
  • Karen Beaudin [B.A./1992; B.S.W./2011], a community resource co-ordinator and proud Manitoba Métis, for increasing support, understanding and respect for Indigenous people in the workforce and her ongoing service to the community
  • Dian Cohen [LL.D./2000], economist, broadcaster and author, for her economic acumen, broadcast excellence and the important role she has played in shaping community strategies and government policies

“I offer my sincere congratulations to all new inductees into the Order of Manitoba whose achievements encompass a broad range of endeavours and accomplishments,” said president and vice-chancellor David Barnard, “particularly those whose educational experiences at the University of Manitoba may have spurred them to greater things.”

The Order of Manitoba was established to recognize Manitobans whose excellence and achievement have benefited the social, cultural or economic well-being of the province and its residents.

Newly appointed Lt.-Gov. Janice Filmon will lead the induction ceremony at the Legislature on July 9, 2015.
