Welcome to Summer Term 2023
A message from Laurie Schnarr, Vice-Provost (Students)
Dear Students,
Welcome to the first day of Summer Term! Whether you’re new to the University of Manitoba or resuming your studies, I wish you a productive and fulfilling semester.
A few highlights to note:
As of May 1, UM’s mandatory masking protocol has ended. Masking continues to be strongly encouraged, especially indoors where distancing is not possible. Please continue to be mindful of others and respect their masking choices.
We are here to help you succeed. Check out UM Commons, a webpage full of helpful information for first-time postsecondary students and students who are new to UM.
All UM student supports are available throughout the summer. Be sure to take advantage of the academic, personal, and spiritual resources available to you.
On each of our campuses, every person has a right to feel safe and be well. Upholding this commitment is a shared responsibility.
- Understand expectations about respectful behaviour
- Take care of your health and wellness
- Be in the know about online safety
- Be aware of the safety resources available to you
- Download the UM Safe app
Walk or roll with UM at the annual Pride Winnipeg parade on Sunday, June 4, where we come together in allyship and celebration with the 2SLGBTQ+ community!
Through your Sport and Rec fee, UM students have access to sport and recreation facilities, casual rec use and group fitness classes at the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses. Staying active promotes a variety of health benefits and mental well-being and helps relieve stress and anxiety. You are encouraged to take advantage of this benefit this summer.
Wishing each of you a wonderful Summer Term!
All my best,
Laurie Schnarr
