Download UM Safe, our new mobile safety app

This essential tool features direct access to UM COVID information and updates

September 8, 2020 —

A new mobile safety app called UM Safe has been created to enhance the safety of students, staff and faculty on campus.

UM Safe is an essential tool that sends safety alerts and provides instant access to campus safety resources. The app includes features such as “Work Alone” and “FriendWalk,” as well as a Mobile BlueLight feature similar to the stationary blue lights on our campuses.

The app also features UM COVID-19 (Coronavirus) updates and information, including UM COVID Recovery resources and information for students and faculty/researchers and staff. You access this feature near the top of the app.

The free mobile safety app for students, staff, and faculty is available for iPhone and Android devices. Watch the video for more about our new UM Safe app.

Used by hundreds of higher education institutions, including many Canadian universities, and millions of students around the globe, the safety app was developed by App Armor and is custom branded for the U of M.

Some of the app features involve interaction with Security Services, and some will be optional — while other features have no interaction will Security Services.

The free mobile safety app for students, staff, and faculty is available for iPhone and Android devices.

The Mobile BlueLight button will only contact Security Services when the person is within the campus Safe Walk boundaries. If outside of the Safe Walk boundaries, the Mobile BlueLight notification will go to 911.

Additional safety measures at UM

The University provides 24/7 security officers on regular patrol through Security Services, as well as additional programs and safety initiatives including the Safewalk Program, and Code Blue and Emergency Red Phones. Please visit the Security Services website for more information on safety initiatives on all our campuses.

Stay Safe! Download UM Safe

UM Security Services encourages all students, staff and faculty to download the new UM Safe app and to make use of its many features and resources.
