Entrepreneurship is about being your own boss, something students across the University of Manitoba will be required to master this upcoming year. Working and learning from home means students will have to take control of their environment to be set up for success.

University of Manitoba alumnus Henry Bruce Chown [MD/22] is one of six groundbreaking physicians and researchers being celebrated across the country this week with the unveiling of a set of commemorative Canada Post stamps.

In a year that saw the UM’s 3MT competition become an online event for the first time due to COVID-19, the 3MT Western Regionals are doing the same thing. UM’s winner, Toby Le, will compete against 16 challengers from across Western Canada in an online event on September 23 beginning at 2pm central. We chatted with Toby Le about his research and his experience competing in 3MT thus far.

Unlike years past when socializing and getting to know new classmates were the norm during orientation, first-year students in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences started their 2020/2021 school year in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry/dental hygiene and rehabilitation sciences with orientation activities and welcoming ceremonies in mostly virtual settings.

Research Manitoba has announced $3.8M in research funding to support recipients of the Manitoba COVID-19 Rapid Response Grant Competition and eight Manitoba clinical trials related to COVID-19 and applied health research.

Dr. Meghan Azad, associate professor of pediatrics and child health at the Max Rady College of Medicine has been named as winner of the 2020 Joe Doupe Young Investigator Award by the Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation (CSCI), an Ottawa-based organization that represents young health-care researchers across Canada.
