December 6, 2024 — 
On October 11, 2024, law students at the University of Manitoba’s L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic had the unique opportunity to meet in person with the Clinic’s benefactor, L. Kerry Vickar [LLB/1980], and his wife, Simone Vickar. This visit allowed students to showcase what they’ve learned through the Clinic and to gain insights from an alum whose entrepreneurial vision has helped shaped their legal education.

December 2, 2024 — 
The Office of Equity Transformation introduces the Public Classroom Initiative, an extension of the Listening, Learning, Leading series, designed to foster informed dialogue and deepen understanding of contemporary issues within the UM community.

November 29, 2024 — 
With profound sadness the Faculty of Law mourns the passing of Justice Richard Scott, O.C., O.M., K.C., a towering figure in Manitoba’s legal community. Justice Scott, who served as Chief Justice of the Manitoba Court of Appeal for 22 years until his retirement in 2013, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the age of 86.

November 29, 2024 — 
Moot Season at Robson Hall has kicked off with the annual Solomon Greenberg Trial Moot which took place on Grey Cup weekend, Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the Winnipeg Law Courts. Winner Maria Garcia Manzano (3L) and runner-up Nadine Plourde (3L) will go on to represent Manitoba at the MacIntyre (Western) Cup to be hosted at Robson Hall in Winnipeg, on February 14 - 15, 2025.

November 27, 2024 — 
The proverb “the more things change, the more they stay the same” remains true today, even where the Internet is concerned. This year’s winning paper of the Muriel St. John Research Award for Women’s Legal Issues was written for a course titled Law, Technology and the Future, but dealt with the age-old issue of women being sexually exploited non-consensually. For the first time, the former law librarian’s award was presented to a law student identifying as male. Ms. St. John was delighted to present Chad Laferriere-Enns [JD/2024] with her award in-person at The Faculty of Law’s Student Achievement Awards Reception on October 29, 2024.

November 25, 2024 — 
On November 14, 2024, students from the L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic and the Indigenous Business Education Partners (IBEP) at the Asper School of Business came together at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg to celebrate the 18th annual Visionary Indigenous Business Excellence (VIBE) Awards. The event, hosted by IBEP, coincided with the 30th anniversary of IBEP, marking three decades of fostering community, education, and Indigenous business leadership.

November 22, 2024 — 
On November 6, 2024, law students from the Faculty of Law’s L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic, Ravi Balchan (3L) [B. Comm. (Hons.)/2022], Alli Knox (3L) [B. Comm. (Hons.)/2017], and Jordan Wagner (3L) [B. Comm. (Hons.)/2022], all Asper School of Business graduates, hosted a webinar in collaboration with the Stu Clark Centre for Entrepreneurship entitled Startup Law 101: Protect Your New Venture.

November 20, 2024 — 
On November 5, 2024, 3 law students from the Faculty of Law’s Manitoba Legal Clinic for the Arts became educators and gave an in-person seminar to the University of Winnipeg’s “The Business of Theatre” Class.
