Familiar faces form new team at Faculty of Law Dean’s Office

The newly appointed Dean of Law, Dr. Richard Jochelson, welcomes to the “Dean Team” at the Faculty of Law, Associate Dean, Dr. Virginia Torrie. Dr. Donn Short continues as Associate Dean Research and Graduate Studies until June 30, 2024. Dr. Torrie’s term begins July 1, 2021 lasting until June 30, 2026.

Acting Dean of Law, David Asper, Q.C., is very interested in people, so when he started to get to know the professors and students who make up the Faculty of Law community housed at Robson Hall, he decided to make a 'podcast' series for the Faculty's Youtube Channel. At the end of his own series, he was invited to interview one of Robson Hall’s illustrious alumni, International Criminal Court Judge Kimberly Prost [LLB/81], who fondly remembered her days as a student at Robson Hall.

David Asper, Q.C., an outstanding UM alumnus whose legal work, business activities and philanthropy have improved the lives of countless Manitobans and Canadians, has been named Acting Dean for the Faculty of Law effective July 1, 2020.

Faculty of Law mourns late professor and Dean, Art Braid, C.M., Q.C.

It was with great sadness, that the Dean’s Office at Robson Hall, Faculty of Law learned last week of the passing of E. Arthur Braid CM, QC, LL.B. (Manitoba)1960, LL.M. (London)1967. He was a law professor at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Law from 1964-2000, served as Dean of Law from 1994-1999, and was a Senior Scholar up until the time of his passing on February 27, 2020.

Faculty of Law mourns passing of Roland Penner, former Dean, senior scholar, alumnus

The Dean's Office of Robson Hall Faculty of Law, shared sad news with Faculty, staff and students in an email this weekend. "It is with great sadness that I relay to you the passing of Roland Penner, who until his death, was a Senior Scholar at Robson Hall and previous Dean (1989 - 94)," said Dr. Jonathan Black-Branch, Dean of Law.
