Let’s Talk Waste: Plastic Bags

Plastic bags are one of – if not the – most misunderstood item in the world of waste reduction. Currently in Winnipeg, as well as many recycling facilities around the world, plastic bags cannot be processed as part of the blue bin system. The U of M has partnered with Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba (MMSM) to combat our plastic bag use on campus.

Let’s Talk Waste: Composting

The most recent addition to composting on campus starts Oct. 15, 2018. The Arts Student Body Council (ASBC), in partnership with the Office of Sustainability, is beginning a compost pilot project with Compost Winnipeg. The pilot project will be kept in motion by student sustainability ambassador volunteers and will be maintained by ASBC and the Office of Sustainability.

On Monday, September 24, the University of Manitoba’s Bannatyne campus will mark a milestone as the first university campus in Manitoba to receive the Fair Trade Campus designation from the Canadian Fair Trade Network (CFTN) for its promotion of social and environmental sustainability and innovation.
