As 2022 draws to a close, I want to wish everyone in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences community, and your loved ones, a healthy and restful holiday season.

December 22, 2022 — 
Gayle Halas [Dip.D.Hyg./87, PhD/16] has taken a long journey as an educator and researcher since starting her career as a clinical dental hygienist. A key lesson of that journey, she says, is that health is multifaceted, with needs based on physiological, emotional and social factors.

December 21, 2022 — 
Monika Warren [BN/90] says her proudest leadership moments always involve interprofessional teamwork. “When you include everyone’s voice in the conversation, the team feels empowered and will work together to find innovative solutions,” says Warren, who was appointed by Shared Health in January 2022 as Manitoba’s new chief operating officer for provincial health services and chief nursing officer.

December 20, 2022 — 
Forty-three UM student families have received holiday baskets filled with children’s toys and childcare supplies, thanks to generous donations from the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences community.

December 19, 2022 — 
At the age of 24, Hans Epp [B.Sc.Pharm/84] became one of Shoppers Drug Mart’s youngest franchise owners. In his nearly four decades as a pharmacist, he has seen many changes in the profession.

A First Nations partnership at the College of Rehabilitation Sciences has doubled its community reach in the last six years.

December 14, 2022 — 
It took only one year of undergraduate pharmacy studies for Dana Turcotte [B.Sc.Pharm/05, PhD/14] to know that she wanted to pursue research.

Dr. Kim Mitchell has joined the College of Nursing with the research goal of helping nursing programs manage English literacy – a much-discussed topic in the context of the current nursing shortage.

When Karen McElroy chose a career in respiratory therapy (RT), she was attracted to the “adrenaline junkie” side of it – the intense situations in emergency rooms where there are sometimes only minutes to save a patient’s life.
