For the past decade, the UM JUMP portal has been used as a channel for internal communications and for student and staff access to applications. IST's project team has now completed a multi-year project to move its applications and content to newer, more secure services such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.

If you are a longtime Teams user, you may have noticed a recent change in the lineup of the default tabs in a new Teams channel. When Teams was initially introduced, Teams channels, by default, came with three tabs: Posts, Files and Wiki. A Wiki is a simple note app that allows participants in a Teams channel to collaborate in a document quickly and easily.

Next-generation networking coming to UM
April 24, 2023 —
Information Services and Technology (IST) has partnered with Cisco on the next generation of networking for the University of Manitoba. The Network Segmentation Project was launched in April of 2021 to design and implement a new and improved campus-wide network. This new network and its associated technologies will improve network security, stability, and ease of use for all students, staff and faculty. Our IT support staff will also see improvements in administration, automation, and analysis.

On March 27, the university’s Information Security and Compliance Team conducted their semi-annual phishing test. The subject of the email, “Important notice regarding your recent tax filing,” encouraged employees to click a link to verify missing or incorrect information on their University of Manitoba T4 tax information.
