Like Faculty of Law grad Hardeep Suri [JD/2023] who contributed to the development of ground-breaking legal app Law Newbie and UM School of Art graduate Joel Nichols was named UM’s 100th Rhodes Scholar, the first ever successful finalist from the School of Art.

Celebrating Dr. Catherine Cook

After more than 30 years with the University of Manitoba, inaugural Vice-President (Indigenous) Dr. Catherine Cook will retire at the end of January. Throughout her career, Cook has worked with First Nations, Métis, Inuit, provincial and federal governments, as well as community organizations, to champion the importance of health services for Indigenous Manitobans.

For the fourth time in five years, a law student at Robson Hall has won the annual Canadian Bar Association Charities and Not-for-Profit Law Section’s student essay-writing contest. Robert Johnstone is a third-year Juris Doctor student whose winning paper was titled “The Secularization of Philanthropy: Examining the Potential Revocation of the Roman Catholic Church’s Charitable Status.”

Distinguished Visitor invites legal community to learn from a disability perspective

The Faculty of Law’s long-running Distinguished Visitors Lecture Series kick-starts the winter term on January 9th, the second full day of classes, with a noon-hour visit from Professor David Lepofsky. Currently serving as an adjunct research professor at the University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Law, the internationally-recognized disability rights advocate will speak on “The Lawyer’s Ethical Duty to Engage in Social Justice Advocacy – Learning from a Disability Perspective.”
