Passing the Torch : Network News

December 11, 2023 —  The Faculty of Law honoured the lives and legacies of alumni and members of the Manitoba legal community at its annual Student Achievement Awards reception November 1, 2023. The Faculty welcomed families and friends of donors and loved ones in whose names awards were established, to meet face-to-face, the students who would be receiving the meaningful support intended to help them complete their degrees.

December 8, 2023 —  The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1505 (ATU), the designated representative for transit workers in the City of Winnipeg have accepted their offer from the City. As a result, Winnipeg Transit service will continue with regular schedules and operations.

It also includes changes to support the tax year 2022.

Honouring the legacy of two-spirit and transgender people, fighting for a better future : Network News

December 7, 2023 —  On November 20th, for Two-Spirit and Transgender Day of Remembrance, the Inner City Student Council in collaboration with the Inner City Social Work faculty and staff partnered with the Clan Mother’s Healing Village to come together and honour the lives lost due to anti-transgender violence. Elder Mae Louise Campbell, Jamie Goulet, and Debra Diubaldo from the Clan Mother’s Healing Village led ceremony while staff, students, and community members from Mount Carmel Clinic shared stories of remembrance, violence, and the need for change. “We have a responsibility in social work to advocate for policies and practices, both within the university and beyond, that allow Two-Spirit, Trans and Gender Diverse folks to thrive,” says Dr. Christine Mayor (she/her), assistant professor, Faculty of Social Work.

December 7, 2023 —  Two Asper School of Business undergraduate students have received Manitoba Indigenous Youth Achievement Awards (MIYAAs). Brenden Tait won in the Academic (Senior) category, while John Lodge won in the Business/Entrepreneurship category.
