UM alum among educators recognized with the Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence
Teresa Boucher [BEd/89] received this year’s Certificate of Achievement for Inclusion and Innovation in Learning.
The Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence Award honours outstanding and innovative elementary and secondary school teachers in all disciplines for their remarkable educational achievements.

“It’s very flattering and humbling that parents, colleagues, administrators, and many former students put together a wonderful nomination package that highlighted a number of experiences I have shared with students of the past and present. These experiences vary from drama presentations written by students, or research into murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls, to patchwork quilts and forged swords that represent Shakespearean characters on display in my classroom. So, being selected as a recipient means, I suppose, that those experiences have lasting value.”
Teresa has been a high school English teacher for over 30 years, and what began as a deep love for English literature and drama has become a rewarding career. Teresa remembers fondly her time as a student in the Faculty of Education, “I had absolute faith in the student teacher advisors and the instructors in the curriculum-connected courses I took,” said Teresa Boucher.
In the classroom she is focused in forming relationships with students creating a learning environment where students feel supported and willing to take chances.
