New group offering: Dealing with Uncertainty During Covid-19
Student Counselling Centre (SCC) offers groups and workshops which can help students learn new skills to deal more effectively with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems and more.
The experience of studying during Covid-19 has been an extreme challenge for many students, so they’ve created a new group to help students by providing a safe space for students to share, listen and learn from others but not to solve each other’s problems. The group is a place of support where there is a time to reflect and process day-to-day life but to also learn new skills and strategies to face these daily challenges while incorporating existing strengths.
Topic areas will include:
- Embracing Change when things feel out of control
- Setting up a daily schedule during times of uncertainty
- Dealing with Loss and Grief during Covid-19
- Understanding the Importance of Connections and Maximizing the 5 W’s of Connections
- Self Compassion and Forgiveness for Self and Others
- Building a Resiliency Plan as you Move Forward
This group is a closed group, meaning students will be asked to register in advance and attend all six sessions. The number of students per group will be limited to 8 students, and students must be able to access Microsoft Teams. Students can register by either emailing Michelle Pearson directly at Michelle.Pearson@umanitoba.ca or calling the SCC front desk at (204) 474-8592 or asking their intake specialist or counsellor to sign them up for the group.
Once the first group is filled students will be added to a waitlist and other groups will be added based on student interest and need.
Start Date: Wednesday February 3rd to Wednesday March 10: 1:30 to 3:00 pm
