UM’s Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP) has changed

Access health and wellness resources with a new app, phone number and website

December 7, 2022 —

UM’s Employee & Family Assistance Program — or EFAP for short — has been renamed as LifeWorks (formerly Shepell.fgi), with a new app, phone number and website to better serve your mental health and well-being needs.

Check out the Lifeworks website (username: canadalife, password: lifeworks) for resources and information on how to download the app. You can also call 1-866-289-6749 (TTY:  1-877-338-0275) for more information or to be connected with a counsellor.

UM employees should note that the former Shepell.fgi app, website and phone numbers will still work for a period of time, but will eventually close.

UM faculty, instructors, support staff and all employees, including part-time, casual and student-employees, have these free resources and access to mental health professionals, wellness counselling and even legal advice 24/7, 365 days a year. You can receive confidential help and counselling for any concern.

Other help and resources you can access through the Lifeworks website

The Lifeworks website offers many resources and information for financial, family, mental and physical health and well-being, including:

  • Toolkits for a broad range of personal and professional issues, from sleep health to coping with illness to parenting
  • Nutrition and fitness professionals
  • Mental health, addictions and stress/burnout and also provides free, confidential counselling support
  • Creating a will and financial advice, such as budgeting and investing
  • Conflict and communication, marriage and divorce, caring for children and other family members and more
