UM Orientation event Welcome to the Herd!
An orientation event for new students and their families/supporters
Join us at the Fort Garry campus on Wednesday, August 7 for the first University of Manitoba Orientation event designed for newly admitted UM students starting this fall. Students are invited to bring parents/supporters or a friend for an evening of sessions and tours to help navigate the beginning of their university adventure.
Welcome to the Herd is an exciting opportunity for incoming students to get a sneak peek at the student experience and learn important information about preparing for classes this fall.
“Welcome to the Herd is a great opportunity to come to campus and get familiar with your new surroundings,” says Brandy Usick, Executive Director, Student Engagement and Success. “Last year, students appreciated the sample lectures and getting a real sense of what it’s like to attend classes, take notes and talk to a professor about expectations in the classroom.”
Sessions will include:
- Classroom learning strategies
- High school and university
- Sample lectures to allow new students to feel what it will be like on the first day of classes.
- Campus tours from the Buller lawn
Students and supporters will also have an opportunity to take a walking tour of our beautiful campus with student tour guides, who will highlight important spots on campus. We will also have staff available from key offices on campus to help students understand all the services available to them at the Info Fair. You’re invited to stop by tables outside UMSU University Centre and talk to UM staff and students, who will help to answer questions about supports and programs available to UM students!
WHEN: August 7 | 3 – 8 p.m. CST (first session starts at 3:30)
WHERE: Fort Garry campus (check in ONCE with any volunteer at a session location)
